Building a Stronger Kimberley Through Local Food Relief
Foodbank stall at the 2025 Ngumpan Festival
The Kimberley continues to face some of the highest rates of food insecurity in regional Australia, driven by long distances, high freight costs and periods of seasonal isolation that disrupt supply. These pressures fall hardest on remote communities, where access to affordable, healthy food is already limited.
To help address this, the KLC is partnering with MG Corporation and Foodbank WA to establish a dedicated food relief facility in the Kimberley in 2026. Once established, the new hub will improve access to essential supplies across the region and create a more reliable, locally coordinated approach to food distribution.
The KLC and Foodbank WA are working towards establishing a Kimberley-wide network of food relief hubs supported by strong regional partnerships, shared infrastructure and scalable delivery models. Together, these organisations are adding to existing programs that serve communities across the region, ensuring food security isn’t determined by distance or the wet season.
As part of this initiative, a Foodbank WA stall was set up at this year’s festival in Ngumpan to showcase the important work they do and to engage with members about food security solutions for the Kimberley. This provided an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the partnership and the role Foodbank plays in supporting communities.
Stay tuned for more updates on the facility in 2026.
