Nyul Nyul Ranger Preston Cox Honoured for Years of Dedicated Volunteer Service
Nyul Nyul Ranger Preston Cox accepts medal from DFES District Officer Shane Klunder
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) presented Nyul Nyul Ranger Preston Cox with a medal to acknowledge his many years of volunteer service.
DFES District Officer Shane Klunder said Preston’s contribution since joining as a volunteer in 2017 and becoming Captain of the Nyul Nyul brigade in 2019, has been invaluable.
“People underestimate the number of hours and the personal time volunteers like Preston dedicate to keeping country and community safe from wildfires - over weekends, late at night.
The intel and support Preston has provided to DFES over the years has been immense. We'd like to thank Preston's family and his employer, the Kimberley Land Council, for supporting him in his duties, which have benefited the Kimberley community. Presenting this medal is a small token of appreciation for that service.”
Preston said he was surprised but proud to be recognised.
“Through the ranger program, I’ve seen what effective fire management can do, and I feel really proud to work with a great team of rangers and strong partners like DFES to keep the Dampier Peninsula safe.”
The medal was presented at the Dampier Peninsula Fire Meeting held at One Arm Point in November.
